DESCRIPTION

This module covers the essentials of ramps for wheelchair users and can be attended as a stand-alone course or in tandem with Level 2.

ON COMPLETION OF THE COURSE, YOU SHOULD:

  • be able to assess client considerations and discuss how these can affect ramp choice & design
  • be able to discuss the different types of ramps available (portable, temporary and permanent)
  • have awareness of key design principles and assessment criteria relating to ramps
  • have explored the purpose and use of portable ramp risk assessment forms
  • be familiar with the concept and use of ramp gradients and how to assess for these
  • be able to discuss handrail design and regulations regarding requirements for same
  • have explored how to assess for straight-approach ramps (including one or more video demonstrations)
  • be aware of a range of ramp suppliers
  • have taken part in desktop exercises within a group setting
