DESCRIPTION
This module covers the essentials of ramps for wheelchair users and can be attended as a stand-alone course or in tandem with Level 2.
ON COMPLETION OF THE COURSE, YOU SHOULD:
- be able to assess client considerations and discuss how these can affect ramp choice & design
- be able to discuss the different types of ramps available (portable, temporary and permanent)
- have awareness of key design principles and assessment criteria relating to ramps
- have explored the purpose and use of portable ramp risk assessment forms
- be familiar with the concept and use of ramp gradients and how to assess for these
- be able to discuss handrail design and regulations regarding requirements for same
- have explored how to assess for straight-approach ramps (including one or more video demonstrations)
- be aware of a range of ramp suppliers
- have taken part in desktop exercises within a group setting
